Flipp Salon-Apothecary

I have been wanting to expand my photography services to cover a more diverse platform and offer somewhat of a small business branding package. Now, it seems I never want to create work that is standard to what you typically see. I love creating with artists, dreamers, and unconventional humans that have original and creative visions. Well, there I was trying to figure out how I'm going to manage this. I have come to learn that if you want something you need to put it out there and ask for it, so that's what I did. I reached out and asked for exactly that, lucky for me I have a circle of amazing people in my life who, of course, also know amazing people. Birds of a feather flock together, isn't that what they say?

Well, JoAnna of Flipp Salon-Apothecary reached out to me and explained a bit about her business, staff, and community. It was creative, beautiful and inclusive. My experience with her from the beginning was something of a dream. In all honesty, I was both honored to be working with her as well as a bit intimidated. She has a bold presence, a vision for her brand, and a confidence that's unwavering. Was I going to be able to give her what she needed?

The more I spoke with JoAnna and heard of what she was creating at Flipp, the more I saw this was not your average Salon. This was a community, it is a growing home for artists from all walks of life. A place for dreamers to come and share their work, to feel seen, to be heard, and to educate. You can come here to get your hair done, purchase organic hair and skin care products that are custom blended by JoAnna from her line Botanic Providence, discover local artists, and attend workshops to help educate you in all they offer. This is huge in a time where we want to shop local, use products that are both good for ourselves and the environment, use products that are locally sourced, and learn more about what we are putting on our bodies.

Now, as I said before, this isn't your typical salon. It also acts as an artist gallery as well. JoAnna provides a space where artists can showcase their art, from photography, paintings, jewelry, and music. I had the pleasure of documenting one of their "Flipp by Night" concert series, where the extremely talented Andrew Alling performed as a one man band. The salon space was cleared out to make room for the performance, audience, and refreshments. It was the perfect intimate setting with good music, good company, and another way of bringing the community and art together.

If this isn't enough for you to see how much love is being poured into this space well you must meet the staff. They were some of the the most eclectic and beautiful souls I've met. Each had their own style, vibe, and personality but they all had a genuine heart that I instantly felt. They welcomed me in, some more excited for "headshots" than others but they all showed me a piece of their souls and I am forever grateful to have had the opportunity to photograph each and every one of them.

Thank you so much JoAnna for giving me the chance to showcase all the amazing things you are doing for this world, Providence, RI is lucky to have such a kind hearted influencer in it's presence.
